Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the broader lifting engineering sector with individuals who are qualified to approve either crane or lifting equipment before use.
The crane industry will benefit from having qualified people capable of erecting and testing cranes. The lifting equipment industry will benefit from having qualified people capable of testing and certifying lifting equipment.
Graduates will be capable of working in a self-managed capacity.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Inspect crane or lifting equipment, and test for compliance against manufacturer requirements, applicable New Zealand Standards or general arrangement drawings.

Graduates of the Crane Erection strand will also be able to:
- Plan to, and assemble and dismantle a crane or crane components

Graduates of the Load Lifting Rigging Certification strand will also be able to:
- Certify lifting components and complete assemblies.
Education pathways
This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Cranes (Level 3) with strands in Cab-Controlled Overhead Crane, Dogman, Load-Lifting Rigging Production, Pendant-Controlled Overhead Crane, Self-Erecting Tower Crane, Truck Loader Crane [Ref: 3730] and the New Zealand Certificate in Cranes (Level 4) with strands in Advanced Dogman, Crawler Crane, Mini Crane, Mobile Crane, Non-Slewing Articulated Crane, Tower Crane [Ref: 3731].

Graduates may progress to leadership and management qualifications in the business area.

Graduates of the strand in Crane Erection will have the skills and knowledge to work in the specialist role of crane erection.

Entry Requirements
Candidates are expected to be employed in the cranes or broader lifting industries.

Completion of the New Zealand Certificate in Cranes (Level 3) with the strand in Load Lifting Rigging Production [Ref: 3730] is a prerequisite for entry into the Load Lifting Rigging Certification Strand.
