Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the adventure tourism industry with people who are able to work immediately as specialist operators, supervisors or team leaders within an adventure tourism environment. Work readiness is ensured through a compulsory full time paid internship.

The qualification will benefit the community by enhancing operator requirements and entrepreneurial knowledge within the adventure tourism industry.

Graduates will be able to work autonomously in a range of dynamic adventure tourism environments, with responsibilities for the management, development and learning of others.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply business and entrepreneurial strategies to identify and optimise opportunities in the adventure tourism industry.
- Analyse leadership skills and apply to the management and development of staff, ensuring a positive workplace culture and quality visitor experiences appropriate to the adventure tourism environment.
- Evaluate economic, environmental and social sustainability policies and practices, to develop and implement effective strategies to manage operational and visitor impact within the adventure tourism industry.
- Analyse and apply specialised technical, operational and systems knowledge for the dynamic nature of the adventure tourism industry to maximise performance in an adventure tourism business.
- Analyse industry standard operational procedures and systems to develop and evaluate compliance requirements supporting continuous improvement in an adventure tourism business.
- Apply specialised technical and theoretical skills and knowledge of the adventure tourism environment in an operational context, and analyse policies and processes to effectively self manage and lead others, and resolve dynamic and complex problems within the workplace.
Education pathways
This diploma builds on the New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 5) [Ref: 2206].

Graduates of this qualification may progress to further study at the same or higher level in tourism management or a related discipline.
Employment pathways
Graduates will have the skills and knowledge to be employed in specialist and management roles, or as departmental managers or leaders within the dynamic adventure tourism sector.

Entry Requirements
Completion of an 800 hour fulltime paid internship in the chosen field of study, in the adventure tourism industry.
