Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification will provide the exercise industry with graduates that have advanced skills and knowledge in exercise prescription and who can help facilitate relationships with health professionals and professional bodies in the exercise sector.

Graduates will be able to develop, deliver and evaluate personalised exercise programmes for at risk individuals and targeted exercise programmes for groups and organisations.

Graduates will operate within a framework of health and wellness in relation to individual, group or community needs and contribute to the cultural, social economic wellbeing of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Graduates will be eligible to register with the New Zealand Register of Exercise Professionals.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Critically analyse key principles, concepts, trends and research from across the exercise industry to inform professional practice.
- Apply exercise principles to plan, deliver, and critically evaluate tailored exercise programmes for individuals and target groups to enhance health, wellness and/or exercise performance.
- Explain the pathophysiological determinants and impact of medications, non-medicinal drugs and supplements on a range of health conditions, to respond to how they affect exercise performance.
- Apply knowledge of exercise science and health promotion, strength and conditioning, and coaching to lead the delivery and development of exercise programmes and performance outcomes for a specialist area or population.
- Build relationships and work with professionals across a range of disciplines, and demonstrate leadership within exercise contexts, having regard to the scope of practice of all parties.
- Select, apply and evaluate appropriate assessment tools in order to prescribe an effective exercise programme for clients using a variety of existing and emerging technologies.
- Identify and find solutions to reduce the barriers to exercise and improve wellness within a variety of health and exercise settings, including workplaces.
- Manage systems and processes that monitor client progress and outcomes throughout an exercise programme.
Education pathways
This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Exercise (Level 5) [Ref: 3564], and may lead to study at a higher level in the areas of sport, recreation, exercise or health.
Employment pathways

Credits
