Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the marine industry with people who are able to operate as a power boat rigger.
This is an entry-level qualification for people intending to enter or who are already working in the marine industry. Graduates of this qualification will be able to work in a range of unsupervised roles in power boat rigging. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Apply health and safety practices to ensure own and others' safety to minimise potential hazards and environmental risk in a power boat rigging workplace. - Collaborate in the review of and contribute to the achievement of team objectives in a power boat rigging workplace. - Apply specific marine knowledge and terminology to communicate effectively; and behave in a professional manner with colleagues, managers and customers. - Carry out common tasks for power boat rigging using a range of hand and power tools, and plant and equipment. - Interpret documentation and specifications to establish requirements to plan the rigging of a power boat. - Install inboard engines, outboard motors, power boat systems and equipment to meet client requirements and manufacturer's specifications. |

This qualification may build on the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 1, 2 or 3.
Graduates of this qualification may progress to: - New Zealand Certificate in Power Boat Systems Servicing and Repair (Technician) (Level 4) [Ref: 3848] - New Zealand Diploma in Marine Vessel Project Management (Level 6) (New Build/Refit) [Ref: 3127]. |
