Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the infrastructure industry with people who have the skills and knowledge to complete pipeline construction and maintenance in a range of contexts.

Graduates can operate at tradesperson-level, safely constructing and maintaining pipelines with quality outcomes.

The strands acknowledge the specialisations in Drinking-Water, Stormwater and Wastewater, or Trenchless Technologies.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Meet health, safety, environment, and quality assurance requirements for pipeline construction and maintenance.
- Plan and apply appropriate methodology when constructing and maintaining pipelines.
- Coordinate plant, equipment, and materials to complete pipeline construction and maintenance operations.
- Communicate effectively while constructing and maintaining pipelines.

Graduates of the Drinking-Water strand will also be able to:
- Maintain drinking-water reticulation assets, including planned and reactive works.

Graduates of the Stormwater and Wastewater strand will also be able to:
- Maintain stormwater and wastewater reticulation assets, including planned and reactive works.

Graduates of the Trenchless Technologies strand will also be able to:
- Install or rehabilitate infrastructure assets using appropriate trenchless installation methodology and technology.
Education pathways
This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Level 3) [Ref: 4440].

This qualification can lead to the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Single Site Supervision) (Level 4) [Ref: 2617], or the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works Projects (Level 5) [Ref: 2619].

This qualification leads to partial fulfilment of the registration requirements for Civil Trades Board (CTB).
Employment pathways
Graduates of this qualification will be able to work as installers and/or maintainers of pipelines in the pipeline construction and maintenance sector in contexts such as:
- Water reticulation maintenance
- Pipeline rehabilitation
- Trenchless pipe installation

Entry Requirements
Graduates of this qualification are not qualified to carry out plumbing or drainage work that requires a consent under the Building Act 2004. Consented work must be carried out by a plumber or drainlayer.
