Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of the Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Practice is to enable students to develop core, foundational knowledge about theories, driving forces, and worldviews, including Te Ao Maori, related to sustainable practice. The programme embraces principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi to facilitate application of such knowledge to specific discipline contexts whilst building the capability to recognise that interdisciplinary frameworks and research can help to address complex sustainability problems. The PG Certificate in Sustainable Practice is an ideal first step towards postgraduate study aimed at people with an interest in sustainable practice who wish to develop higher level understanding and specialist skills from their undergraduate degree.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
1. Show evidence of advanced sustainability knowledge including sophisticated theoretical concepts, global perspectives and future thinking related to sustainable practice.
2. Engage in rigorous intellectual analysis and critically evaluate findings, discussions, and debates in literature, theory and practice pertaining to sustainable practice.
3. Enact cross cultural perspectives which embrace understanding and engagement with indigenous bodies of knowledge, practices and worldviews with a key focus on Te Ao Māori and bicultural Aotearoa New Zealand.
4. Articulate and apply a vision of sustainable practice which constructively takes account of multiple perspectives and reflexively recognises personal and professional values.

Academic Requirements
A Bachelor's degree.
Alternative Requirements
Applicants unable to evidence that they meet Academic Entry requirements, but who can demonstrate acquired skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, may be approved for alternative entry.
Note: Course requirements may be reduced where you have relevant credits from previous study, or evidence of similar learning or experience in the workplace. Contact Ara for advice.
English Requirements
Applicants for whom English is not their first language may also be required to provide evidence of English language skills as listed below. Applicants who do not have evidence of English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident should contact Ara for advice.
- IELTS 6.5 Academic (no lower than 6.0 in any subtest). For acceptable alternatives refer to the English Proficiency Outcomes Chart on the Ara website.
Note: IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.

Credits
