Graduates of the Bachelor of Screen Production will be able to: Select, apply and critically evaluate specialised creative, mechanical and technological processes across a range of capture, manipulation and delivery methods/platforms to screen productions. Select and apply storytelling processes and critically evaluate their relationship to audience in screen productions. Select, apply and critically evaluate relevant screen production business and industrial practices in the creation of screen production processes. Collaborate professionally with team members using appropriate communication skills to realise a range of specialised screen productions. Synthesise and apply practical problem solving skills to a range of screen production processes. Research and critically reflect on a range of social, economic, cultural, industrial, technological and historical conditions relevant to the screen production industry in order to inform specialised screen production practice. Education pathways |
Following successful completion of the Level 5 New Zealand Diploma in Screen Production students may apply to transfer 120 credits at Level 5 into the SAE Institute Bachelor of Screen Production in order to engage in Level 6 and 7 studies towards the 360-credit degree.
Holders of the SAE Institute Level 5 Diploma in Film Making (PC9573) may also apply to transfer 120 credits at Level 5 into the SAE Institute Bachelor of Screen Production in order to engage in Level 6 and 7 studies towards the 360-credit degree |

Entry Requirements |
A person is eligible to apply for entry who:
Has attained University Entrance (UE) or NCEA Level 3 with related subjects OR Can satisfactorily prove that they have the potential to succeed on the programme and is over the age of 20 by the official start date of their programme of study English as an Additional Language (EAL) applicants, including NZ Residents must meet standard NZQA minimum English Proficiency Outcomes for a degree programme, e.g. for the academic version of IELTS they will require a score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5, or acceptable equivalent as per NZQA's English language proficiency requirements. Scores must come from a single test taken no more than two years before the proposed date of enrolment. An applicant must be a minimum of 17 years at the start date of the programme. Discretionary entry does not apply to this requirement. Applicants aged less than 18 years old must apply with parental/guardian consent. All entry is at the discretion of the Academic Manager. |

This qualification is designed for people who are pursuing a career in film, video or other related screen production industries. Graduates will have specialised skills, knowledge and attributes necessary to operate independently as creative contributors in the screen production industry. This includes the attributes necessary to contribute to a bi-and multi-cultural environment in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
Students engage in a rotating schedule of practical filmmaking, screenwriting, creative analysis and mechanical/technical work in industry-led project-oriented modes. Courses offer a range of skills, narratives, methodologies, technologies and traditions, each guided by current industry practice. Collaborative practice is a foundational aspect of project-based learning. Courses are a combination of 15 and 30 credits and are primarily delivered sequentially. Key employability skills are taught via the Professional Practice courses (CC500, CC600, CC700). |
