Strategic Purpose Statement
The Bachelor of Commerce Programme places emphasis on applied knowledge and 'hands-on' skill development. In addition to the acquisition of specialised knowledge, high importance is placed on the development of core transferrable skills (such as communication, presentation, interpersonal and problem-solving skills) because both types of 'know how' are needed by work ready graduates capable of adding immediate value in industry. The Bachelor of Commerce Programme places strong emphasis on the involvement of practitioners and business experts who often provide guest lecturers adding to the best practice focus of the curriculum. The Programme content is responsive to the local and regional economy, which is reflected in aspects of project and assignment work. The programme mabe be awarded with a single major in Accounting, Management or Marketing or with a double major in Accounting and Management, Accounting and Marketing or Management and Marketing.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Bachelor of Commerce will be able to: 1. Demonstrate and apply core business competences such as - but not limited to - critical thinking, decision making, negotiation, presentation, problem solving, managing self and others. 2. Research, assess and critically evaluate business information relevant to their selected business areas and business environment. 3. Evaluate and adopt different approaches to decision making as required by the environment. 4. Establish and actively support various methods of collaboration and teamwork in real and virtual environments. 5. Plan and manage their continued learning and career development. 6. Practise business in a legal, sustainable, ethical and culturally appropriate manner. In addition to the skills listed above for the Bachelor of Commerce, graduates from the Bachelor of Commerce Accounting will be able to: Prepare and analyse information about economic transactions and events in a range of business environments and use this to support effective decision making Process and evaluate a full set of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices in New Zealand In addition to the skills listed for the Bachelor of Commerce, graduates from the Bachelor of Commerce Management will have the ability to: Demonstrate innovative and creative approaches to solving management issues by using knowledge of modern trends and technologies in communication with major stakeholders. Apply advanced management principles, concepts and tools to support effective decision making In addition to the skills listed for the Graduate Diplomas, graduates from the Graduate Diploma in Marketing will have the ability to: Apply advanced marketing principles and concepts to creatively solve marketing issues in a range of organisational contexts

Accounting Major:
Graduates will be qualified to work in a range of management disciplines in both the public and private sectors including production management, general management, and project/contact management.

Management Major:
Graduates will be qualified to work in a range of management disciplines in both the public and private sectors including production management, general management, and project/contact management.

Marketing Major:

Entry Requirements
University entrance or any qualification (New Zealand or overseas) recognised by NZQA as being equivalent. All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level. Those students whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate an IELTS Academic Score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5 issued in the last 2 years or the equivalent. In exceptional circumstances, an applicant who does not meet the academic requirements may be granted entry. They must supply evidence (eg of relevant skills, education or work experience) to satisfy the Head of Department (or delegate) of their ability to successfully complete the Bachelor of Commerce. It is strongly recommended that students are able to competently utilise digital applications and technologies, and have access to same.
