Strategic Purpose Statement
The Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science (BSES) aims to equip students with skills and knowledge required to work effectively with individuals, groups and communities, and to effect positive change to realise sport, recreation and exercise outcomes through the application of health and wellness knowledge. In line with contemporary industry requirements, BSES graduates will be work ready on day one and productive from day one. They will be equipped to cope with uncertainty and disruption by thinking and acting independently, critically and creatively, and will be prepared to engage in self-directed learning to advance their capability. BSES graduates will be proficient in terms of professional requirements related to the law, ethics, codes of practice and safety. They will communicate effectively in local, regional, national and global contexts, reflect critically on their own practice, and be responsive to feedback. Finally, the BSES programme will equip graduates with the skills and knowledge to address challenges and solve problems by accessing, assessing and using information on sport, recreation and exercise from a variety of sources.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the BSES will * effectively and creatively address challenges in sport and exercise science; * reflect critically on sport, recreation and exercise practices and be responsive to client and stakeholder feedback; * effect positive change by integrating health and wellness knowledge among individuals, groups and communities; * engage in life-long learning to advance their scientific knowledge, professional skills and workplace capability; and * be confident global citizens, capable of contributing toward a healthier Aotearoa/New Zealand from a national and international perspective.

Entry Requirements
The academic entry requirement for the BSES is either University Entrance, as defined by the NZQA, or equivalent; or at the discretion of the Head of School, where the situation of an applicant without the above is compelling. Applicants with a first language other than English must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language fluency prior to acceptance in the programme. Ways in which English language fluency may be demonstrated include (i) completion of a programme of study in which English was the language of instruction (conditions apply*), and (ii) approved scores on IELTS tests, namely an Academic score of 6 with no band lower than 5.5 (or accepted international equivalents).
