Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the Complementary Medicine industry with individuals who have evidenced based theoretical and technical knowledge to support either Human Health or Animal Health through the use of Homeopathy.
The qualification is stranded to recognise the specific skills and knowledge required to support either Human Health or Animal Health.
Learners will benefit by having a qualification that recognises their knowledge of homeopathy and enables enhanced employment and self-employment opportunities.
The Complementary Medicine industry will benefit by having skilled practitioners who are able to assess and manage Human Health or Animal Health conditions.
Graduates will be capable of working autonomously within established parameters of the Complementary Medicine industry.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Evaluate current evidence and research in the rationale, application and communication of the homeopathic treatment plan for a range of acute and chronic conditions.
- Apply the personal and professional qualities expected of homeopathic practitioners to work within a homeopathic business setting.
- Develop a business strategy for a homeopathic practice including legal and ethical requirements, marketing strategies and health and safety requirements.

Graduates of the Human Health strand will also be able to:
- Analyse presenting client conditions and apply Homeopathic, evidence-based, theoretical and technical knowledge to develop comprehensive client centred treatment plans for humans.
- Apply knowledge of pathophysiology to inform decisions that determine the treatment or management of acute and chronic conditions and/or the referral of the client to a medical practitioner.
- Evaluate client nutrition to inform decisions that determine the treatment or management of acute and chronic conditions.

Graduates of the Animal Health strand will also be able to:
- Analyse presenting animal conditions and apply Homeopathic, evidence-based, theoretical and technical knowledge to develop comprehensive animal treatment plans.
- Apply knowledge of animal pathophysiology to inform decisions that determine the treatment or management of acute and chronic conditions in animals and/or the referral of the animal to a veterinary practitioner.
- Evaluate animal nutrition to inform decisions that determine the treatment or management of acute and chronic conditions in animals.
Education pathways
This qualification builds on the New Zealand Diploma in Acute Prescribing with Homeopathy (Level 5) [Ref: 2986].
This qualification may lead to higher level study in areas of complementary medicine, healthcare, wellbeing or business.
Employment pathways
Graduates will be able to work as an autonomous practitioner in their own practice, or as a member of an integrative health team in a variety of settings.

Employment opportunities include:
- Self-employment.
- Health related businesses including but not limited to complementary and allopathic health care, multidisciplinary clinics.

Employment opportunities for graduates of the Human Health strand also include:
- Health food retail assistant.
- Complementary health education.
- Fertility, paediatric and aged-care support.

Employment opportunities for graduates of the Animal Health strand also include:
- Stock and dairy farm animal health support (organic and non-organic).
- Equine rehabilitation.
- Pet health support.
