Strategic Purpose Statement |
The aim of the Graduate Certificate in Building Information Modelling (GCBIM) is to extend previous learning in construction-related fields (architecture, construction, civil engineering etc.) to attain an occupational-specific set of foundational knowledge and skills in BIM, and the personal attributes to equip graduates to work in the BIM integrated project environment as BIM technicians or coordinators. The GCBIM prepares graduates to contribute productively to the work of BIM project teams working in a building design environment.
The target market includes students who have completed a relevant Bachelor degree in a construction-related field (e.g. BCon, BEng, BEngTech, BArch, BAS etc.); people currently working in industry wanting to upskill; and/or people sponsored by their work organisations to upskill as part-time students. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
1. Extend technical, and applied knowledge to include Building Information Modelling. 2. Use effective communication and negotiation skills in a range of organisational, professional, social, and multicultural11 contexts. 3. Work safely, ethically, sustainably, and productively as individuals, and collaboratively as effective members of multi-disciplinary BIM project teams. 4. Contribute towards the design, planning, management, and execution of BIM projects. 5. Apply critical thinking and problem-solving to develop BIM solutions. |

Entry Requirements |
Academic Requirements
A relevant New Zealand bachelor degree in a construction-related field, for example; BCon, BEng, BEngTech, BArch, BAS, or equivalent. Applicants who are unable to evidence that they meet Academic Requirements, but who can demonstrate acquired skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, may be approved for alternative entry. This may include Recognition of Prior Learning. Contact Ara for advice. English Requirements If English is not the applicant's first language, applicants will need to provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Chart. Applicants who do not have evidence of English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, may contact us for an assessment. IELTS 6.0 Academic (no lower than 5.5 in any subtest). For acceptable alternatives refer to the English Proficiency Outcomes Chart on Ara Institute of Canterbury's website. Note: IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test. Applicants who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements are not required to provide evidence of English language skills. |
