Strategic Purpose Statement |
The Graduate Diploma in Information Technology is a one year programme run in conjunction with the Bachelor of Information Technology for those who have previously studied at degree level to develop specialist IT ability and skills. The qualification prepares graduates for employment, having gained specialised knowledge and skills in IT. It provides graduates with the academic base required for further study and the ability to pursue a professional career in the IT industry. The capstone project undertaken by students provides them with the practical industry-based experience of working in a team to produce an IT solution. This involves successfully applying knowledge and skills to solve real problems.
This qualification provides a forward-looking, versatile programme of study for learners who wish to enter the IT industry, both in New Zealand and globally. Graduates will have the academic base required for further study and the ability to pursue a professional career in the Information Technology industry. The focus of this qualification is on both theoretical and applied learning, and the development of IT skills and knowledge that are valued both in a range of occupations and professions and in the wider community. The incorporation of industry-focused projects develops both specific skills in a discipline and the transferable skills needed for collaborative and entrepreneurial work. Graduates have a familiarity with information technologies commonly used in organisations, and the ability to learn new skills in a rapidly changing environment. They have an expectation of ongoing change throughout their careers, and with the skills, attributes and capability to adapt to such changes. |
