Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification will provide New Zealand with individuals who are able to instruct participants to develop cycling skills for riding safely on roads and paths.
Graduates are able to conduct cycle skills training courses, and will specialise in instructing beginner, intermediate or advanced skills, depending on the strand chosen. Graduates will contribute to the health, cultural, social, environmental and economic wellbeing of Aotearoa New Zealand. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Plan, conduct and review engaging cycle skills training sessions for individuals and groups, dependant on participant capability. - Apply hazard identification and risk management principles for cycle skills training sessions. - Facilitate inclusive cycle skills training sessions. Graduates of the Beginner Skills strand will also be able to: - Conduct cycle skills training sessions to instruct participants in the beginner handling skills required to develop balance and basic bike control for riding in a traffic free environment. Graduates of the Intermediate Skills strand will also be able to: - Conduct cycle skills training sessions to instruct participants in the road traffic rules and environment and to gain the intermediate skills required to confidently ride on local roads. Graduates of the Advanced Skills strand will also be able to: - Conduct cycle skills training sessions to instruct participants in the advanced skills required to ride with confidence on the full range of roads where cycling is allowed. |

Education pathways |
This is intended as a stand-alone qualification however it may provide a pathway from lower-level sport, recreation, instruction and health qualifications such as the New Zealand Certificate in Sport Coaching (Level 3) [Ref: 3228].
Graduates of this qualification could undertake further study or training towards the New Zealand Certificate in Sport Coaching (Level 5) [Ref: 3230] or higher-level health, safety or management qualifications. |

Individuals must hold unit standards 26545 and 26548 before entry into the Advanced Skills strand.
