Strategic Purpose Statement
The focus is on both theoretical knowledge, and an understanding of the application of that knowledge in professional information technology practice. * It is designed to develop knowledge and skills in professional information technology practice, building on those attained in undergraduate study in the computing field. * It enables student to make a solid start in higher level, constructive and functional applications of information technology knowledge and skills. * It encourages flexibility, acknowledging the diversity of information technology environments and the diversity in learner interest and needs.
Graduate profile
EIT expects the graduates of the Post Graduate Certificate in Information Technology qualification to demonstrate ability in each of the following areas: Knowledge Graduates of the Post Graduate Certificate in Information Technology will have a proficiency of a body of knowledge, including an understanding of specialised conceptual and theoretical elements, in the area of Information and Communications Technology. Thinking and Inquiry Graduates of the Post Graduate Certificate in Information Technology will have the capacity for critical, conceptual and reflective thinking and inquiry. Managing Information & Research Graduates of the Post Graduate Certificate in Information Technology will recognise when information is needed, have the capacity to locate, evaluate and use this information effectively. Communication Graduates of the Post Graduate Certificate in Information Technology will be able to communicate knowledge, ideas, recommendations and decisions Values, Attitudes and Personal Qualities Graduates of the Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology will possess values and attitudes consistent with their roles as responsible citizens and members of their professional communities

Entry Requirements
The academic entry requirement for the Post Graduate Certificate in Information Technology is one of the following: * an NZQF-listed undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology, Computing or similar; or * an undergraduate degree in a related field with a minimum of the equivalent to a B average (as per the EIT-specified 11-point achievement-based grading system), subject to assessment by the programme coordinator; or * at the Dean's discretion, where an applicant's situation is compelling but not covered by the requirements listed above. All applicants must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language fluency prior to acceptance in the programme. For international students, ways in which English language fluency may be demonstrated include the following: * successful study of a programme in which English was the language of instruction (subject to the conditions in EIT's Database for English Language Proficiency (DELP)) * completion of a New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 5 with any endorsement) * IELTS Academic score of 6.5, with no band score lower than 6, achieved in a single test within the two years preceding enrolment * accepted international equivalents to the above IELTS scores, achieved in a single test within the two years preceding enrolment (see equivalency tables in the DELP). An international student must be in possession of an appropriate visa for the duration of the duration of the programme.

To complete the programme students must complete a minimum of 60 credits selected from Table 3: Schedule of new PGIT Level 8 courses and Table 4: Schedule of existing PGIT Level 8 courses. There are no core course requirements.

Credits
