The aim of this programme is to produce graduates with knowledge and advanced practical experience that enable them to practice in Chinese Medicine in the New Zealand context. Students will select courses in the area of Chinese herbal medicine or acupuncture in consultation with NZCCM. The content, assessment and practice components of courses will be aligned with the student's chosen practice area (Chinese herbal medicine or acupuncture).

The purpose and aim of the Master of Chinese Medicine is to provide communities in Aotearoa New Zealand with individuals who have attained advanced knowledge, practical skills and behavioural attributes in using advanced traditional Chinese Medicine practices and philosophies. Graduates will have developed a set of knowledge and skills in clinical inquiry, critical appraisal and scholarship and the ability to initiate change to effect positive outcomes for patient groups/populations; enabling them to undertake innovative, specialist roles in Chinese Medicine and provide leadership to other Chinese Medicine Professionals.

Graduates from this programme will have advanced academic, practice and research skills gained from an academic programme which is soundly based on Chinese Medicine theories and practice. For health professionals in Chinese Medicine, this will enable them to remain up to date with new technology and developments in the field and to advance their practice including research skills.

Graduates of this programme will be able to:
1. Develop critical thinking in advanced knowledge in Chinese Medicine.
2. Apply theories of Chinese Medicine in modern / contemporary society context.
3. Contribute to the theories of classical and contemporary Chinese Medicine, utilising empirical evidence in advanced Chinese Medicine practice.
4. Apply medico-legal, cultural safety and ethical requirements in advanced practice and research.
5. Engage in rigorous intellectual analysis, criticism and problem-solving in specialist Chinese Medicine field/scope practice.
6. Work independently and safely to apply specialist Chinese Medicine knowledge in new or unfamiliar health contexts / situations 7. Demonstrate leadership through inter-professional relationships in practice. 8. Provide advanced academic information literacy in critical enquiry in research.

Professional Doctorate in Chinese Medicine

Academic requirements
The minimum entry qualification for the Master of Chinese Medicine is a bachelor's degree or equivalent (to a bachelor's degree listed at level 7 on the NZQF).
Admission as an individual to a master's degree is based on the evaluation of documentary evidence (including the academic record) of the individual applicant's ability to undertake Postgraduate study in the specialist field of Chinese Medicine.
1. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree with either a major in Herbal Medicine or Acupuncture with at least 360 credits or equivalent (equivalent means a level 7 Diploma or in Acupuncture or Chinese Medicine with at least 360 credits and minimum recent continuous five years relevant working experience) from institutions either in New Zealand or abroad.
General Requirements
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the appropriate motivation, attitudes and attributes required to successfully study in this programme. Applicants must be physically capable of completing the programme. Applicants must also be independently mobile and not require assistance from another person or device to undertake clinical practice experience.
* The minimum age to enter this programme is 20 years
* Applicants must supply names and contact details for two referees
* Applicants must declare any health issues or disability on a path towards confident, independent professional practice to allow NZCCM to consider whether appropriate support can be provided, and the likelihood of the applicant's ability to meet professional requirements and practice independently on completion of the programme.
* Applicants must consent to the completion of a Police Vetting check.
* Applicants will be required to consent to a disclosure of criminal convictions and safety checks required by the Children's Act 2014.
* May be required to meet Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA Act).

English Language Entry Requirements
Applicants must have sufficient competence in the English language to undertake this programme, which is taught and assessed in English. If a domestic student is not a native speaker of English, he/she must demonstrate his/her command of English is equivalent to the NZ university master degree entrance requirements and of a level of proficiency and capability relevant to the level of programme to enable them to be successful in their studies, or students must provide evidence of full time study

within a New Zealand school for a period of three (3) years and proof that they have completed a minimum of Level 5 qualification in NZQF. Any applicant whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of their English language competency. An average of 6.5 and a minimum of 6 in all bands of the IELTS academic test or equivalent is a requirement.
Equivalency is defined as:
TOEFL Paper-based Test (pBT) where the test was carried out prior to 1 October 2017 Score of 590 (with an essay score 5.5 TWE) TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) Score of 79 (with a writing score of 21)
Cambridge English Qualifications C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 176. No less than 169 in each skill:
OET Minimum of Grade C+ or 300 in all sub-tests
NZCEL Level 5 (Academic) or (Professional) Pearson Test of English (Academic) PTE (Academic) score of 58 with no band score lower than 50
Language Cert C1 Expert IESOL(LRWS) with HIGH PASS and no less than Pass in each skill or C2 Mastery IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill
Trinity ISE ISE 111with no less than pass in any band
