Strategic Purpose Statement
The Bachelor of Software Engineering with a major in either Artificial Intelligence or Cloud Computing is designed for students who wish to enter the ICT industry and have the necessary aptitude and skills to undertake undergraduate study in software engineering. It aims to provide students with a coherent and systematic introduction to the software engineering body of knowledge specifically in their field of major. The qualification is therefore a vehicle for students to develop the knowledge, skills, abilities and attitude necessary to work independently or collaboratively as a professional software engineer.
Graduate profile
A graduate of the Bachelor of Software Engineering degree can:
Apply knowledge of research principles, critical thinking, and technical skills to evaluate and synthesise specialist software engineering information projects;
Adapt and apply creative skills to identify and solve complex commercial software engineering problems;
Evaluate software engineering principles and techniques towards ethics of practice in a global and sustainable context;
Apply project management strategies, communication techniques, and leadership skills in the software engineering context.

In addition, a graduate of the Bachelor of Software Engineering (Artificial Intelligence) degree can:

Analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge from the domain of artificial intelligence in diverse contexts including social impact, emerging technologies, and entrepreneurship;

Select and apply artificial intelligence tools to the analysis, design, and operation of a model.

In addition, a graduate of the Bachelor of Software Engineering (Could Computing) degree can:

Analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge from the domain of could computing and DevOps in diverse contexts including social impact, emerging technologies, and entrepreneurship;

Select and apply cloud computing tools to the analysis, design, and operation of an architecture.

Entry Requirements
To apply for this degree, students need a minimum qualification of University Entrance or equivalent, such as CIE (University of Cambridge International Examination) or IB (International Baccalaureate) * NCEA -- Students must take a minimum of 28 credits across any of the following subjects: Mathematics (or Statistics or Calculus), Physics or Technology at NCEA Level 3. * CIE -- Students must take two of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics or Computing as subjects. * IB -- The IB Diploma include two of the following subjects: Mathematics Computer Science or Physics. NCEA University Entrance NCEA Level 3 must be comprised of three subjects at Level 3, made up of 14 credits each, in three approved subjects: Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above, made up of: Five 5 credits in reading Five 5 credits in writing Numeracy - 10 credits at Level 1 or above, made up of: * Achievement standards - specified achievement standards available through a range of subjects or; * A package of three numeracy unit standards: (26623, 26626, 26627). CIE University Entrance PART A * A minimum of 120 points on the UCAS Tariff at A or AS level from any syllabus groups from those available in New Zealand which are broadly equivalent to those in the list of approved subjects for NCEA, and * A D grade or better in syllabuses from at least three different syllabus groups (excluding Thinking Skills) PART B - LITERACY Either an E grade or better in any one of AS English Language, Language and Literature in English, or Literature in English. A 'D' grade or better will satisfy one of the syllabus requirements of Part A. NUMERACY Either a 'D' grade or better in IGCSE or GCSE mathematics or any mathematics passed at AS level. A 'D' grade or better will satisfy one of the syllabus requirements of Part A. IB University Entrance An applicant will be deemed to be eligible for admission if they have been awarded the full International Baccalaureate Diploma (24 points minimum). An IB Diploma must be completed with English as Language A1 at either Higher or Standard Level, and including any mathematics, subject satisfies the literacy and numeracy requirements for university entrance. Australian University Entrance requirements The student must have completed Year 12 (High School Certificate or equivalent qualification) with an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 60 (minimum) or a Queensland Overall Position (OP) score of 14. Special Admission Special Admission - New Zealand or Australian citizen or permanent resident, who are over 20 years of age on the first day of the semester and want to study at degree level, but do not have a formal university entrance qualification. Applicants who do not meet requirements for general admission and have relevant experience and skills may apply for special admission, which must be supported by a professional portfolio and documented industry experience. Once all the information is gathered and submitted for special admission request, the Admission Board discusses the individual cases and takes a decision accordingly. Discretionary Admission Discretionary Entrance is based on the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 2 (or higher) and is available to applicants who have gained exceptional results in Year 12. Applicants must be under 20, be a New Zealand or Australian citizen or permanent resident, and not be otherwise qualified for entrance to university. Discretionary Entrance is not available to international students. English Language Requirement Media Design School expects all students to be proficient in English at an academic level. Evidence of this can be provided through IELTS, TOEFL, PTE academic scores, or an equivalent. International Students An appropriate qualification from an overseas secondary school or tertiary institution, deemed by Media Design School to be sufficient for admission into a Bachelors programme. International students need to have sufficient English language skills to complete this course, Academic IELTS 6.0 (minimum with no bands less than 5.5), or equivalent qualification, if English is not the potential students' first language. English testing is evaluated as per MDS procedure in compliance with NZQA requirement.

The structure of the Bachelor of Software Engineering programme consists of four main areas of study:
Software Engineering Core Components
Creative Technology components
Major components
And Electives
Electives are interspersed throughout the programme. The elective bank components are assembled from some Media Design School undergraduate programmes including 3D Animation and Visual Effects, Media Design, and Game Development providing opportunities to expand on the learning
Eleven components of the Bachelor of Software Engineering programme will be common. Eight components comprise each major. Three components are electives, one at each year level.
Twenty-one components are 15 credits, whilst the final component is 45 credits involving work integrated learning, culminating in a major production of work.
