Strategic Purpose Statement
Graduates of the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Management will extend and
deepen their knowledge and understanding of research and enquiry methods, current
capabilities and issues over a wider range of disciplines within an applied management
context. Through experiential learning strategies and reflective practice, students will apply
management practices in the field of business management or business information
systems. This qualification prepares students for further postgraduate study or to obtain
employment, advance their careers or develop their own organisation.
Graduate profile
Graduates will be able to:
- Critically analyse and argue using empirical evidence
- Think independently and critically enabling future-focused decision-making in real
world situations
- Engage in rigorous intellectual analysis, criticism and applied problem-solving
- Work effectively in multicultural teams and exercise leadership in the workplace
- Critically apply management knowledge and capabilities to new situations
- Assess the impact of organisational practices on society and address related ethical and
sustainability issues.
- Critically analyse current practitioner literature and applied and conceptual research
findings
- Critically evaluate a range of research and enquiry methodologies and undertake
applied professional projects
- Participate in leadership activities in applied management contexts.
- Apply their professional learning and capabilities to be able to live and work in Aotearoa
New Zealand.
Those graduates who complete the Business Management major will also be able to:
- Explore, critically evaluate and develop an in-depth appreciation of key business
management and leadership roles within effective organisational contexts
- Manage organisational projects, taking into consideration their responsibilities and
decision-making from a variety of perspectives, to meet the requirements of an applied
business management role.
Those graduates who complete the Business Information Systems major will also be able
to:
- Explore, critically evaluate and develop an in-depth appreciate of key business
information systems management and leadership roles within effective organisational
contexts
- Manage business information systems projects, taking into consideration their
responsibilities and decision-making from a variety of perspectives, to meet the
requirements of effective organisations.

Entry Requirements
Minimum entry requirements are
1 a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) in a related discipline, or
2 a combination of academic qualifications and relevant skills and knowledge acquired
through work or professional experience that is deemed equivalent to 1 above.
3 International applicants must demonstrate that they have equivalent academic
qualifications and experience, and those for whom English is not their first language,
must provide evidence of English language competence of IELTS academic overall
band score of 6.5 with no individual band less than 6.0, or equivalent.

This programme is delivered in equivalent to one year full-time and is comprised of
120credits, comprising four compulsory courses of 15 credits each:
