Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates of the Master of Applied Management will be able to confidently engage
with research and its application to a range of disciplines within the applied management context. These graduates are critical thinkers, effective problem solvers, future-focused and apply specialised management and leadership knowledge and capabilities to new situations with the field of business management or business information systems. This qualification prepares students for further postgraduate study or to advance their careers or enhance their own organisation. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates will be able to:
- Research, analyse and argue using empirical evidence - Think independently and critically enabling future-focused decision-making in real world situations - Engage in rigorous intellectual analysis, criticism and applied problem-solving - Work effectively in multicultural teams and exercise leadership in the workplace - Critically apply specialised management knowledge and capabilities to new situations - Critically assess the impact of organisational practices on society and address related ethical and sustainability issues - Critically analyse current practitioner literature and applied and conceptual research findings - Design and complete a piece of applied research to internationally recognised standards - Communicate applied research outcomes effectively - Actively engage in leadership activities in applied management contexts - Critically assess own professional learning and capabilities against Aotearoa New Zealand workplace context. Those graduates who complete the 120 credit research thesis component will also be able to: - Demonstrate a high order of skill in the planning, execution and completion of a piece of original research or creative scholarly work - Synthesise knowledge and apply this learning to new organisational decision-making situations. Those graduates who complete the Business Management major will also be able to: - Explore, critically evaluate and develop an in-depth appreciation of key business management and leadership roles within effective organisational contexts - Manage and lead organisational projects, taking into consideration their responsibilities and decision-making from a variety of perspectives, to meet the requirements of an applied business management role. - Critically evaluate evidence-based business management practices which contribute to the importance of strategic thinking in leadership decision-making Those graduates who complete the Business Information Systems major will also be able to: - Explore, critically evaluate and develop an in-depth appreciation of key business information systems management and leadership roles within effective organisational contexts - Manage and lead business information systems projects, taking into consideration their responsibilities and decision-making from a variety of perspectives, to meet the requirements of effective organisations. - Critically evaluate evidence-based business information systems which contribute to the leadership and effective strategic direction and operation of organisations. |

Entry Requirements |
Minimum entry requirements are
1 a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) in a related discipline with a grade average at level 7/8 of B- or higher, or 2 a combination of academic qualifications and relevant skills and knowledge acquired through work or professional experience that is deemed equivalent to 1 above. 3 International applicants must demonstrate that they have equivalent academic qualifications and experience, and those for whom English is not their first language must provide evidence of English language competence of IELTS academic overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band less than 6.0, or equivalent. |

The Master of Applied Management at level 9 comprises 180 credits and is equivalent to
one and half years' full-time study. There are three pathways - Coursework, Professional Project and coursework, and Research Thesis. Initially two majors will be offered - Business Management and Business Information Systems. Compulsory Courses for the three pathways and the majors AM801002 Capabilities for Managers AM802002 Research and Enquiry AM811001 Analytics for Managers AM804001 Project Management Coursework option - 180 credits The four compulsory courses listed above and eight courses including at least three level 9 courses from the electives list for the selected major. Professional Project Pathway - 180 credits The four compulsory courses listed above, and AM901001 Professional Project (45 credits at level 9) - compulsory, and Five courses at level 8 and level 9 from the electives list for the selected major.
