Strategic Purpose Statement
Graduates of the Pourewa Mātauranga Māori me ngā Iwi Taketake - Post Graduate Diploma in Mātauranga Māori and Indigenous Studies (Level 8) will gain and be well equipped with post graduate level skills, knowledge, and abilities within and for Māori and indigenous contexts and have a wide-ranging understanding of historical and contemporary knowledge for the benefit of whānau, hapū and community. Graduates will develop and gain research knowledge and research skills to provide access to higher level qualifications with a research focus.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this programme will:

1. Utilise Māori and Indigenous knowledge to explore and revitalise contemporary connections with whānau, hapū, iwi or with indigenous local and international communities.

2. Demonstrate and critically apply theoretical and practical specialised knowledge and skills, contextually aligned to Māori and Indigenous aspirations.

3. Apply research skills and knowledge in preparation for future postgraduate study or to deploy in community/professional roles.

Employment pathways
Graduates will have advanced skills and knowledge to undertake a range employment roles in specialist subjects, in the sectors of policy, education, business, health, creative arts and non-governmental organisations. Entry Requirements
Entry into the Pourewa Mātauranga Māori me ngā Iwi Taketake - Post Graduate Diploma in Mātauranga Māori and Indigenous Studies (Level 8) requires that the tauira will:
(a) have made formal application for entry to the programme and the specified endorsement selected; and
(b) gained approved programme of study by the Head of School Indigenous Graduate Studies; and
(c) have one of the following:
i. a bachelor's degree at level 7; or
ii. a graduate diploma at level 7 with supporting evidence of at least five years relevant work/community experience in the field of study/endorsement area applying for; or
iii. with supporting evidence at least eight years relevant work/community experience in the field of study/endorsement area applying for; or
iv. a qualification considered by the Head of School as ad eundem statum (recognised as having an equivalent status or competencies to merit achievement in a Bachelor's degree).

Where a programme states a te reo Māori competency: tauira must demonstrate their level of competency to korero and tuhituhi to the minimum standard identified in the programme specific regulations in the current programme document at the time of application and kept on file.

Special Admission
(a) Special Admission may be granted, where an applicant is over the age of 20 years at the start of the programme and they can provide sufficient evidence of work experience, skill, education, background knowledge, commitment and support to successfully undertake the programme of study.
(b) An applicant must provide a portfolio of evidence to support their application.
(c) Special admission may be granted at the discretion of the Head of School and or the Programme Coordinator.

English Language Admission Requirements
(a) Applicants whose first language is not Māori or English must provide evidence of English language competence. This evidence may be in the form of IELTS academic band score of 6.5 (overall), with no individual band less than 6.0 equivalent.
