Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the flooring industry with people who have knowledge of current technologies and the practical experience required to carry out flooring planning and design work.
The optional strands in Site Assessment and Flooring Estimation recognise specialised skills required in some flooring planning and design settings. This qualification is for people currently working in flooring wholesale, retail or supply related trades or people from flooring installation or other construction related trade backgrounds intending to work in the flooring planning and design industry. Graduates will be able to operate unsupervised and perform to the required safety, technical, quality and productivity standards expected of commercially competent flooring planners and designers. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Apply underpinning skills and knowledge related to legislation, flooring calculations, flooring installation and working plans to all aspects of floor planning and design work. - Research and analyse design trends, properties of materials and client requirements to produce flooring design solutions. - Collaborate with clients and other industry parties to plan flooring installation operations. - Operate to and maintain the required standards of a commercially competent tradesperson. - Develop and maintain ongoing learning and emerging work practices specific to flooring planning and design. - Provide leadership for people working in the flooring planning and design environment. Graduates of the Estimation strand will also be able to: - Complete estimations to meet manufacturer specifications for flooring installation operations. Graduates of the Site Assessment strand will also be able to: - Complete site assessments to meet manufacturer specifications in preparation for flooring installation operations. |

Education pathways |
This qualification may lead to the:
- New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trades Supervision (Level 5) with strands in Commercial Construction, Construction Related Manufacturing, Construction Related Trades, and Residential Building [Ref: 4237], or the - New Zealand Diploma in Construction (Level 6) with strands in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying [Ref: 2420]. |
