Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the kitchen joinery sector with commercially competent graduates who are able to work unsupervised as kitchen manufacturers or installers.
Graduates of this qualification will be able to work to the standards of trade practice for the kitchen joinery industry that can provide employers and clients with confidence in the products that they are manufacturing or installing. The strands in this qualification allow graduates the opportunity to specialise in either kitchen manufacturing or installation. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Apply knowledge of legislation, industry standards, workplace procedures and kitchen joinery design principles to the manufacture or installation of kitchens. - Select, use and store tools and equipment, materials and products for manufacturing or installing kitchen joinery. - Operate to and maintain the required standards of a commercially competent tradesperson. - Develop and maintain ongoing learning and emerging work practices specific to kitchen joinery manufacture and installation. - Provide leadership for people working in the kitchen joinery manufacture or installation environment - Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, suppliers and other trades to build and maintain positive working relationships. Graduates of the Manufacture strand will also be able to: - Plan and carry out kitchen joinery manufacturing including manufacturing and assembling cabinetry and attaching hardware in accordance with the job specifications. Graduates of the Installation strand will also be able to: - Plan and carry out kitchen joinery installation in accordance with design briefs, manufacturers' specifications, and installation requirements. |

This qualification builds on the:
- NCEA Level 2 construction vocational pathway; - New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills with strands in Allied Trades, Carpentry, and Joinery (Level 3) [Ref: 2834]; - New Zealand Certificate in Building, Construction, and Allied Trades Skills (Level 3) [Ref: 3845]. This qualification may lead to other New Zealand construction related trades qualifications, such as: - New Zealand Certificate in Joinery (Level 4) with strands in Cabinetry, Timber Door and Window, Timber Stairs, and Bench Tops and Specialist Surfaces [Ref: 2343-2] - New Zealand Certificate in Construction Related Trades (Supervisor) (Level 4) [Ref: 2381]. |
