Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of the Graduate Certificate is to enable graduates with an undergraduate degree, to gain applied specialised knowledge and experience in their chosen field of business. Graduates will have sound knowledge of the dynamic and changing environment in which managers operate both nationally and internationally. This will enable students to apply discipline specific knowledge at both operational and strategic levels in their chosen industry.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Graduate Certificate will be able to:
1. Apply specialised technical knowledge and skills to business.
2. Employ creative skills and apply them in an organised approach to problem solving.
3. Use critical thinking capabilities, including analysing, evaluating and critically reflecting on information, decisions and behaviour.
4. Think strategically and be adaptable in a constantly changing global environment.
5. Integrate knowledge of kaupapa Māori and its relevance to business contexts in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Education pathways
Graduates will be able to pathway to the suite of Business Graduate Diplomas, after which graduates can seek entry to higher-level programmes of study in a business-related field. Graduates may also be able to pathway to higher-level certificate or diploma programmes in business with other providers.
Employment pathways

Entry Requirements
Academic Requirements
Graduate Certificate in Business Management
A bachelor's degree in any field excluding Business Management.

Alternative Requirements
Applicants who are unable to evidence that they meet Academic Requirements, but who can demonstrate acquired skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, may be approved for alternative entry. This may include Recognition of Prior Learning. Contact Ara for advice.

English Requirements
If English is not the applicant's first language, applicants will need to provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Chart. Applicants who do not have evidence of English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, may contact Ara for an assessment.
* IELTS 6.0 Academic (no lower than 5.5 in any subtest).
Note:

IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.
Students who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements are not required to provide evidence of English language skills.

Admission
Applicants who meet the requirements for admission are accepted into the programme in the order their applications are received.

Students complete one specified elective course - either AMIQ700 Innovation Quest (enabling students to undertake enquiry-based study innovation in their chosen business context) or AMSP700 Special Topic; and three 15 credit unspecified elective courses from the existing schedule of Bachelor of Applied Management courses (two must be at Level 7).

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
