Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is:
- To provide the hospitality sector with competent employees who are able to work in junior positions in a commercial hospitality workplace.
- To provide a credential for individuals employed or will be employed in junior work roles, to support their employment opportunities in a commercial hospitality workplace.
- To establish standards of professional practice for hospitality product and service delivery to provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
Graduates will be able to operate under supervision.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Employ effective communication skills and appropriate customer service for a hospitality workplace.
- Resolve familiar problems in a commercial hospitality workplace by following standard operating procedures.
- Deliver a range of services and products to customers by applying appropriate skills under limited supervision in a range of commercial hospitality workplace environments.

New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 3) [Ref 2100]; New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 4) [Ref: 2101];
New Zealand Certificate in Accommodation (Level3) with strands in Housekeeping, Portering, and Reception [Ref: 2103];
New Zealand Certificate in Hotel Reception (Level 4) [Ref: 2111];
New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service (Level 3) with strands in Café Services, Bar Services, Restaurant Services, Buffet Services, Functions Services, Barista, and Quick Restaurant Services [Ref: 2104];
or New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service (Level 4) with strands in Restaurant Services, and Quick Service Restaurants Services [Ref: 2105].
Employment pathways
Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to work as:
Chefs in junior positions producing basic dishes in a professional kitchen.
Hotel porters or housekeepers, or junior receptionists in commercial hospitality establishments such as hotels, lodges, backpackers, or motels.
Service personnel in cafes and restaurants, bars or clubs, or baristas.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
