Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of the Demolition and Renovation Skills micro-credential is to provide learners with the skills required to carry out demolition and renovation work on a residential building. It is suitable for people either preparing to be or already employed by companies or organisations engaged in work to relocate and retrofit used residential buildings.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this micro-credential will be able to carry out demolition and renovation work on residential buildings under supervision. They will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of and apply safe working practices
- Demonstrate knowledge of preparing to make alterations to an existing structure
- Demonstrate knowledge of timber use in construction
- Work at height in the construction industry under supervision
- Undertake demolition work under supervision
- Install interior joinery under supervision
- Cut, fit, and fix interior linings and trim under supervision
- Store and prepare materials for use on a construction site

Completion of this micro-credential also prepares learners for entry into a full carpentry apprenticeship programme with a business that provides the required additional scope of work.

The candidate must be employed by a carpentry business that meets BCITO's criteria for suitability to train and signed into a training agreement with the BCITO.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
