Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the aerospace industry with graduates who have gained the skills and knowledge required to carry out the relevant aspects of manufacturing, disassembly, and assembly of aerospace spacecraft and launch vehicles, along with associated systems and components.
This qualification is intended for learners who are planning to pursue a career in the aerospace industry as an aerospace engineer with specialisation in spacecraft and launch vehicles.
Graduates will be competent in a range of aerospace engineering skills required to be capable of working effectively across the aerospace sector.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Apply the knowledge and fundamental principles of launch vehicle, components and/or spacecraft construction or maintenance, including the use and application of information in aerospace publications and documentation in line with current aerospace or aeronautical engineering practice and best practice for safety, to aerospace engineering tasks in an aerospace engineering workplace.
- Complete relevant aspects of manufacture, installation, disassembly, and assembly processes for the main components and associated systems of an aerospace launch vehicle or spacecraft, using operational and theoretical knowledge of aerospace engineering maintenance practices.
Education pathways
The qualification is designed as a stand-alone qualification. While this qualification does not specifically lead to other qualifications, it can provide a pathway to other training opportunities, both off job and on job, in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering for which a number of qualifications and/or training opportunities are available, depending on the direction of their intended career pathway.
Pathway qualifications may include:
New Zealand Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Applied Skills) (Level 4) with strands in Aeronautical Composites, Aeronautical Non Destructive Testing, Aircraft Mechanical, Aircraft Powerplant, Aircraft Structures, Armament, Avionic Electrical Repair, Avionic Instrument Repair, Avionic Radio Repair, Avionic Maintenance, and Rotorcraft [Ref: 2909]
New Zealand Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering (Production Control) (Level 6) [Ref: 4742].

Credits
