Strategic Purpose Statement
The programme provides ākonga with the necessary knowledge and attitudes needed to access and impart "taonga tuku iho", as drawn from the study of iwi and hapū values, knowledge, and institutions, in a way that is consistent with the notion of a Māori world view curriculum and its application in kaupapa Māori educational contexts.The programme also aims to develop the student's proficiency to successfully administer the delivery of curriculum as it applies to Māori Medium and English medium early childhood sectors.
Graduate profile
The graduate will be:
1. able to notice, recognise and respond to the needs and interests of mokopuna from a kaupapa Māori framework.
2. able to critically interpret the professional, ethical and legislative requirements of the early childhood education sector.
3. an inquiry based practitioner that values the ongoing learning and growth for mokopuna and engages whānau in that development.
4. committed and passionate about providing an engaging kaupapa Māori environment that nurtures the holistic wellbeing of mokopuna and whānau.
5. able to actively contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of te Reo me ōna tikanga in ongoing professional learning and development of their teaching practice.
6. Able to acknowledge, foster and promote the value of hapū and iwi knowledge, and the importance of the reclamation, revitalisation and enhancement of that knowledge in the long-term survival and prosperity of hapū and iwi.

The graduate profile statements reflect the aims of the programme. A line-of-sight mapping document provided by Te Wānanga o Raukawa demonstrates that all learning outcomes align with the graduate profile outcomes. Further, the programme's conceptual framework, curriculum, assessments and supporting documentation reflect the initial teacher education requirements of Teaching Council New Zealand.
Education pathways
The graduates of the Poutuarongo Whakaakoranga Kōhungahunga will make a significant contribution to their respective hapori, whānau, hapū and iwi. Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates of the Poutuarongo Whakaakoranga Kōhungahunga will embody a Māori worldview as early childhood educators to honour and empower mokopuna and their whānau. They will be an advocate for Māori medium education able to teach in a variety of early childhood settings.

Entry Requirements
Poutuarongo Whakaakoranga Kōhungahunga is a three-year, bilingual, early childhood teacher education degree that focuses on the uniqueness of mokopuna, whānau, hapū and iwi as a beginning point, with the ultimate goal of re-designing curriculum, pedagogy and evaluation processes relevant to culturally responsive education.

NZQA and Teaching Council have agreed on arrangements for the joint approval and accreditation of ITE degree applications whose graduates are eligible to register with the Teaching Council. This application has been processed in conformity with these arrangements, and on 30 November 2022 at panel, the Teaching Council verbally approved this application.

Pūkenga matua are fluent te reo Māori speakers and contribute to the continuum of mātauranga in their respective and localised communities (whānau, hapū and iwi). Learning activities are definable as kaiako-directed learning delivered by the pūkenga and kaiāwhina from Te Wānanga o Raukawa. Mahi ako, which is monitored practice-based learning alongside kaiako hapai is a professional practicum-based learning divided into eight weeks per academic year.
