Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide the waste transport industry with people who have the skills and knowledge required to undertake driver operations safely, using either a hookload, rearload, gantry or front end loader vehicle for waste industry activities, under limited supervision.
This micro-credential is intended for new entrants to the industry, or those who may wish to pursue a career change. It may also be used by those who have been working in the industry for some time who want to achieve a formal award. |

Graduate profile |
On successful completion of this micro-credential, learners/ākonga will be able to collect and transport waste safely using a hookload, rearload, gantry or front end loader vehicle under limited supervision.
Learners/ākonga will have knowledge of: - working safely in a vehicle working space while undertaking waste industry activities. Learners/ākonga will be skilled in safe operation of one of the following vehicles for collection and transportation of waste: - hookload vehicle - rear end loader - gantry vehicle - front end loader vehicle |

Entry Requirements |
Drivers must hold a current full driver licence and/or endorsement appropriate to the class of vehicle being driven.
Industry requires learners are working in a role with an industry employer who has a workplace training and/or assessment agreement to deliver this micro-credential. Pre-enrolment - Learners/ākonga must be able to access a workplace for work-based training. The provider may be able to assist with placement for those not already employed. Accessibility - Providers will ensure meaningful engagement with a variety of learners/ākonga and support organisations for any disability for learners/ākonga who can still meet the physical demands of a waste transport driver role. Language proficiency - There are no specific additional expectations for literacy requirements over the entry expectations for language proficiency for a level 3 award or qualification. - Providers will support ākonga/learners during delivery to ensure they have the level of language proficiency or literacy required. |

- Safe work practices while undertaking waste industry activities including the use of personal protection equipment, safety signage and equipment, and identification of hazards and risks.
- Vehicle care and safety requirements. - Documenting disposal of waste. Front end vehicles - Loading, compacting, transporting and unloading waste using procedures relevant to front end vehicles, including the use of lifting forks. Hookload vehicles - Loading, transporting and unloading waste using procedures relevant to hookload vehicles, including the use of visual checks and hazard lights. Gantry vehicles - Loading, transporting and unloading waste using procedures relevant to gantry vehicles, including the safe use of lifting chains and tipping chains. Rearload vehicles - Loading, monitoring compaction of waste, transporting and unloading waste using procedures relevant to rearload vehicles, including operating hoist or ejector blade, clearing blockages and non-compliant waste. |
