Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the pulp and paper industry with individuals who are able to work as experienced processing operators who have the skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently operate plant and equipment.
Graduates will benefit by having a qualification which recognises advanced technical skills and knowledge, as well as the potential to progress into a first-line supervisor role. Graduates will be able to operate in a self-managed capacity under broad guidance. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Apply knowledge of the auxiliary process equipment and the fundamentals of process controls used in wood fibre processing operations in the pulp and paper industry. - Apply knowledge of the principles and effects of applied thermo-dynamics (heat, energy), fluid-mechanics (mass transfer) and chemistry relevant to the pulp and paper industry. - Apply knowledge of relevant process safety and quality management systems to support productivity in a manufacturing operation in the pulp and paper industry. - Apply knowledge of performance improvement processes and troubleshooting skills to work in the pulp and paper industry. - Apply knowledge of production processes including functions, components and operating parameters in a manufacturing operation in the pulp and paper industry. - Apply knowledge of workplace health and safety including risk reduction, environmental and sustainable practices in a manufacturing environment contributing to continuous improvement in the pulp and paper industry. - Perform routine plant inspection and first-line maintenance checks, and fulfill housekeeping responsibilities in accordance with workplace operating procedures to maintain a clean and safe working environment in the pulp and paper industry. Graduates of the Pulp Manufacturing strand will also be able to: - Operate and monitor pulp manufacturing plant and equipment to meet productivity requirements in accordance with workplace procedures. Graduates of the Paper Manufacturing strand will also be able to: - Operate and monitor paper manufacturing plant and equipment to meet productivity requirements in accordance with workplace procedures. |
