Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide a formal credential for underground utility locators who complete low risk basic location work, locating known assets and utilities under supervision.

This micro-credential addresses an identified skill gap in Aotearoa New Zealand for undertaking safe and successful utility location activities and will provide a pathway into the underground utility location industry.
Graduate profile
On successful completion of this micro-credential, learners/ākonga will be able to demonstrate the use of ground penetrating radar, electromagnetic location, and describe the risks associated with underground utility locating. They will also be able to complete planning requirements and use plans to locate features on infrastructure worksites.

Learners/ākonga will have knowledge of:
- the principles of electromagnetic location for underground utility locating.
- risk for the underground utility location industry.

Entry Requirements
Pre-enrolment
- Providers must ensure that applicants are informed of the nature of a role in underground utility locating work.
- Learners/ākonga should have access to a workplace for work-based training/work placement. The provider may also be able to assist with work placement for those not already employed.
- Providers should ensure learners/ākonga have access to a workplace that can provide learning support through mentors, verifiers, or supervisors who have expertise in underground utility location.

Accessibility
- Providers will ensure meaningful engagement with a variety of learners/ākonga and support organisations for any disability for learners/ākonga who can still meet the physical demands of an underground utility locating role.

Language proficiency
- Learners/ākonga require sufficient literacy for reading workplace documents and completing assessments.
- Learners/ākonga require communication skills, numeracy skills and physical abilities to meet the requirements of the relevant unit standards (current version of CMR 0101).
- Providers will support learners/ākonga during delivery to ensure they have the level of language proficiency or literacy required.
