Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide ākonga/learners with formal recognition and credentialisation of the skills and knowledge required to construct forestry river crossings safely and effectively in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The micro-credential will cater to those already experienced in forestry river crossing construction who wish to have their skills formally recognised. This micro-credential is part of a training framework endorsed by the industry and provides a training opportunity for those in other primary industries who would like to upskill in this area.

This standalone micro-credential was developed as one of a suite of forestry earthworks micro-credentials. They provide specialist skills an ākonga/learner may choose to further pursue within the forestry earthworks industry that sit alongside Forestry Operations qualifications at Level 3.
Graduate profile
On successful completion of this micro-credential, ākonga/learners will be able to construct forestry river crossings safely, efficiently, and in accordance with both legislative and best-practice requirements. Individuals will be self-aware, recognizing their own identity, values, strengths, and weaknesses, and understanding the impact they have on others. They will possess the skills to self-manage effectively and will have the awareness of and respect for their work environment.

Ākonga/learners will have knowledge of
- purpose and construction considerations for forestry river crossings
- job prescriptions and company requirements
- health and safety in forestry earthworks.

Ākonga/learners will be skilled in:
- preparation for, and construction of forestry river crossings
- safe operation of machinery.

Entry Requirements
It is expected that providers refer to the below entry requirements when developing programmes:

It is recommended the following unit standards are completed prior to attempting this micro-credential;
20476 - Construct forestry roads, tracks, and landings
30919 - Construct culverts and structures for a forestry earthworks site
33308 - Carry out maintenance activities for forestry infrastructure
33309 - Carry out rehabilitation and decommissioning of forestry tracks.

Candidates must hold the class of driving licence and any licence endorsement appropriate to the vehicle being driven to be assessed for the standards mapped to Learning Outcome 2 and 3.

It is expected that ākonga/learners for this micro-credential will be employed in the forestry earthworks industry. The provider may be able to assist with placement for those not already in employment.

Literacy and numeracy
* Ākonga/learners require sufficient levels of literacy and numeracy to allow them to read and understand workplace documents, complete necessary calculations and complete assessments tasks.
* Providers will support ākonga/learners during delivery to ensure they have the level of literacy and numeracy required.

Language Proficiency
* For ākonga/learners who do not have English as their first language, the level of English language skills required is equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5 in General or Academic, with no band score lower than 5.
