Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide ākonga/learners with formal recognition and credentialisation of the skills and knowledge required for plant operation workers using either a wheeled loader, hydraulic excavator, motor scraper, self-propelled roller, bulldozer or motor grader in the forestry industry.
The micro-credential will provide forestry workers who wish to have their skills formally recognised. This micro-credential is part of a training framework endorsed by the industry and provides a training opportunity for those in forestry industries who would like to upskill in this area. This micro-credential may be used in programmes leading to Forestry Operations qualifications at Level 3. |

Graduate profile |
On successful completion of this micro-credential, ākonga/learners will be able to operate a wheeled loader, hydraulic excavator, motor scraper, self-propelled roller, bulldozer or motor grader on a forestry earthworks worksite.
Ākonga/learners will have knowledge of - Job prescriptions - Company requirements - Health and safety measures - Loading procedures - Vehicle operations - Worksite requirements - Earthworks materials. Ākonga/learners will be skilled in: - Safe manoeuvre and control of plant vehicle - Specific plant vehicle operations. Educational pathways leading to: - Programmes leading to Level 3 Forestry Operations qualifications. - New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure (Forestry Earthworks) (Level 4) [Ref: 3782]. Employment pathways leading to: - forestry earthworks job opportunities. Cultural pathways: - graduates will have increased independence and tino rangatiratanga to participate in whānau, hapū, iwi, community, and society. |

Entry Requirements |
It is recommended the following unit standards are completed prior to attempting this micro-credential;
20476 - Construct forestry roads, tracks, and landings 30919 - Construct culverts and structures for a forestry earthworks site 33308 - Carry out maintenance activities for forestry infrastructure 33309 - Carry out rehabilitation and decommissioning of forestry tracks Class of driver licence and any driver licence endorsement appropriate for the vehicle being driven must be held. It is expected that ākonga/learners for this micro-credential will be employed in the Forestry industry. The provider may be able to assist with placement for those not already in employment. Literacy and numeracy * Ākonga/learners require sufficient levels of literacy and numeracy to allow them to read and understand workplace documents, complete necessary calculations and complete assessments tasks. * Providers will support ākonga/learners during delivery to ensure they have the level of literacy and numeracy required. Language Proficiency * For ākonga/learners who do not have English as their first language, the level of English language skills required is equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5 in General or Academic, with no band score lower than 5. |

On successful completion of this micro-credential learners/ākonga will be able to operate a heavy mobile plant vehicle safely and efficiently on a forestry earthworks worksite.
Ākonga/learners will achieve one of the following unit standards depending on the type of heavy mobile plant vehicle being assessed: 17309 - Operate a wheeled loader on infrastructure worksites, Level 3 20 credits 17310 - Operate a hydraulic excavator on infrastructure worksites, Level 3 20 credits 17314 - Operate a motor scraper on infrastructure worksites, Level 3 20 credits 17315 - Operate a self-propelled roller on infrastructure worksites, Level 3 20 credits 17316 - Operate a bulldozer on infrastructure worksites, Level 3 20 credits 31455 - Operate a motor grader on infrastructure worksites, Level 3, 20 credits. |
