Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide ākonga/learners with formal recognition and credentialisation of the skills and knowledge required for core construction of forestry roads in a forestry earthworks context in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The micro-credential will cater to ākonga/learners that are already experienced in forestry earthworks core construction who wish to have their skills formally recognised. This micro-credential is part of a training framework endorsed by the forestry earthworks industry and provides a training opportunity for those new to the industry, or for ākonga/learners in other primary industries. This micro-credential may be used in programmes leading to Forestry Operations qualifications at Level 3. |

Graduate profile |
On successful completion of this micro-credential, ākonga/learners will be able to construct forestry roading safely, efficiently, and in accordance with both legislative and best-practice requirements. Individuals will be self-aware, recognizing their own identity, values, strengths, and weaknesses, and understanding the impact they have on others. They will possess the skills to self-manage effectively and will have the awareness of and respect for their work environment.
Ākonga/learners will have knowledge of: - purpose and considerations for core construction activities for forestry earthworks. - purpose and requirements of rehabilitation and decommissioning of forestry tracks - job prescriptions relating to forestry infrastructure - health and safety in forestry earthworks Ākonga/learners will be skilled in: - preparing and constructing forestry roads, tracks, and landings - maintenance of forestry road surfaces - preparing and constructing of culverts for forestry earthworks - installing inlet and outlet structures - backfilling trench and apply surfacing Educational pathways leading to: - programmes leading to Level 3 Forestry Operations qualifications. - New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure (Forestry Earthworks) (Level 4) [Ref: 3782] Employment pathways leading to: - forestry earthworks job opportunities Cultural pathways: - graduates will have increased independence and tino rangatiratanga to participate in whānau, hapū, iwi, community, and society. |

Entry Requirements |
It is expected that providers refer to the below entry requirements when developing programmes:
* Pre-requisite for unit standard 30919 include unit standards 17769 and 22994. * Candidates must hold the class of driving licence and any licence endorsement appropriate to the vehicle being driven to be assessed for the standards mapped to Learning Outcomes 1 and 2. * It is expected that ākonga/learners for this micro-credential will be employed in the forestry earthworks industry. The provider may be able to assist with placement for those not already in employment. Literacy and numeracy * Ākonga/learners require sufficient levels of literacy and numeracy to allow them to read and understand workplace documents, complete necessary calculations and complete assessments tasks. * Providers will support ākonga/learners during delivery to ensure they have the level of literacy and numeracy required. Language Proficiency * For ākonga/learners who do not have English as their first language, the level of English language skills required is equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5 in General or Academic, with no band score lower than 5. |
