Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide the exercise industry with people who have the skills and knowledge to deliver an exercise experience safely and effectively to apparently healthy populations with an emphasis on interpersonal skills and exercise coaching, within scope of practice and industry code of ethics.

This micro-credential is intended for those who are considering a career in the exercise industry, including school leavers and those from another industry wanting to change careers; and for those delivering exercise sessions in the community who wish to upskill.
Graduate profile
On successful completion of this micro-credential, learners/ākonga will be able to deliver pre-designed or approved individual or group exercise experiences under indirect supervision for apparently healthy populations, and demonstrate corrective coaching as required in an exercise setting.

Learners/ākonga will gain knowledge and skills in:
- Enhancing participants exercise experience through the application of communication and connection techniques.
- Demonstrating and coaching exercise technique, regressions and progressions, movement competency and alternative options for exercises.
- Principles of exercise.
- Pre-screening.
- Functional anatomy relating to primal movement patterns.
Note: the outcome of this micro-credential is NOT to prescribe any exercise programmes.

Pathways
This micro-credential is intended to provide a pathway into employment as an exercise coach, pre-designed group exercise coach or community exercise coach.

Graduates will be eligible to register with the New Zealand Register of Exercise Professionals as an Exercise Coach.
Upon completion of this micro-credential learners/ākonga may use credits from this micro-credential towards the New Zealand Certificate in Exercise (Level 4) [Ref: 3563] or proceed to further study on other qualifications in exercise.

There are no entry requirements for learners/ākonga specific to this micro-credential however providers must ensure that learners/ākonga have access to participants to complete practical components of the assessments.

Content
On successful completion of this micro-credential. learners/ākonga will be able to:
1. Deliver exercise experiences safely and effectively within the scope of practice and industry code of ethics.
2. Apply knowledge of functional anatomy to deliver safe exercise.
3. Apply interpersonal skills and professional practice to enhance participants exercise experience.

Learners/ākonga will also be awarded the following unit standards:
40067 Carry out pre-screening, warm up and cool down activities for an exercise session, Level 4, 5 credits
40068 Deliver an exercise experience using knowledge of functional anatomy and interpersonal skills, Level 4, 15 credits

Credits
