Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this micro-credential is to provide formal recognition and credentialisation of the skills and knowledge required to operate safely and effectively in a shearing role in the wool harvesting industry.
Graduate profile
On successful completion of this micro-credential, learners/ākonga will be able to work safely as a shearer in accordance with both legislative and best-practice requirements. They will have awareness of and respect for their work environment.

Learners/ākonga will have knowledge of:
- Woolshed hazards and reporting procedures
- Appropriate and safe shearing gear to meet job requirements
- Safe and efficient sheep handling
- Shearing stance and pattern.

Learners/ākonga will be skilled in:
- Selecting, maintaining and setting up shearing equipment
- Catching and handling sheep
- Machine shearing crossbred sheep at commercial through-put rate.

On successful completion learners/ākonga will be able to:
1. Identify and report hazards in a woolshed.
2. Contribute to safe set up of the woolshed for use.
3. Select and assemble equipment appropriate to the job requirements.
4. Catch sheep for shearing efficiently and safely.
5. Shear crossbred sheep.
6. Identify wool contaminants, and damaged and injured sheep.
