Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to equip learners with the skills and knowledge required to provide advanced rights-based and person-centred support in the disability sector.
This qualification is designed for learners with significant experience in disability support who are currently working with disabled people. It supports learners to strengthen their professional practice and develop the skills needed for leadership roles within disability support settings. Graduates will contribute to the delivery of high-quality services by demonstrating leadership, promoting independence, reducing societal barriers and enhancing the wellbeing and inclusion of disabled people, their whānau, and wider communities. The qualification enables graduates to work independently or take on more responsibility within their roles, reflecting the diverse needs of the sector. |

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Apply professional, ethical and collaborative approaches in a disability support setting. - Lead and uphold rights-based and person-centred approaches that support disabled people and whānau. - Adopt communication approaches to uphold the preferences and values of disabled people and whānau - Manage and reflect on own professional development and wellbeing to maintain safe and sustainable disability support. - Apply Enabling Good Lives principles to co-design, deliver, strengthen and review support with disabled people and whānau. - Respond to the lived experience, support considerations and preferences of disabled people and whānau through culturally responsive and mana-enhancing practice. |

This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Disability Support (Level 3) [Ref: 5561].
This qualification may lead to further higher-level study in related disability and health and wellbeing areas such as: - New Zealand Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (Level 5) (Practice/Applied Practice) [Ref: 3244]. - New Zealand Diploma in Public Health and Health Promotion (Level 5) [Ref: 1865]. - New Zealand Certificate in Kaupapa Māori Public Health (Level 5) [Ref: 2871]. Other relevant qualifications at Level 5 or above focusing on health, community, disability services, leadership or management. |
