Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide Aotearoa New Zealand with software developers who possess applied technical skills, industry-relevant professional competencies, and current development methodologies. Graduates will be capable of contributing to the full software development lifecycle, from design and development to testing, deployment, and maintenance, in a range of organisational contexts.
Graduates will be able to design, build, test, and deploy software solutions to deliver quality outcomes and will be able to work both collaboratively and independently under broad supervision. Graduates will contribute to strengthening community resilience and participation in the digital economy by supporting digital capability and inclusion, mentoring others, and promoting the responsible use of technology. |

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Design software solutions using SDLC and HCI principles, and modelling tools to meet organisational and user requirements with clear documentation. - Develop, maintain, and deploy software using appropriate tools, languages, and methodologies to meet specifications and performance standards. - Design and execute tests to verify software functionality, document results, and apply quality assurance practices for reliability. - Apply data management and storage technologies to support software development and alignment with application requirements. - Apply secure development practices, integrating privacy, security and compliance principles to design and maintain resilient applications that meet legal and organisational requirements. - Apply appropriate professional practices to competently and ethically contribute to and influence outcomes throughout the software development lifecycle. - Apply project management tools and techniques to plan, execute, and monitor software projects within defined parameters such as scope, schedule and resources. |

Education pathways |
This qualification may provide an education pathway from the New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology (Level 5) with strands in Infrastructure and Technical Support, Software Development, and Applied Digital Technologies [Ref: 5567].
Further education pathways include higher level software development or other IT related qualifications and industry certifications. |
