Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the water services industry with individuals who can support day-to-day water services operations by applying safe working practices and meeting relevant compliance and operational requirements.
This qualification is designed for people interested in the water services industry or those who are recently employed in the industry This qualification is stranded to recognise the specific skills relevant to drinking water and wastewater. Graduates of this qualification will be able to work under supervision in entry-level roles in the water services industry. |

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Relate water services principles to routine operational water services activities. - Apply safe and compliance-based practices when completing routine operational water services activities. Graduates of the Drinking Water strand will also be able to: - Apply drinking water treatment principles to drinking water supply. Graduates of the Wastewater strand will also be able to: - Apply wastewater treatment principles to wastewater. |

This qualification is the first step in the New Zealand water services qualifications pathway and can lead on to the:
- New Zealand Certificate in Water Treatment Operations (Level 4) with optional strands in Pre-Treatment, Clarification, Coagulation and Flocculation, Fluoridation, Non-Chlorine Disinfection, and Filtration [Ref: 5672] - New Zealand Certificate in Wastewater Treatment Operations (Level 4) with optional strands in Activated Sludge, Effluent Disinfection, Fixed Growth Reactor, Separation, Sludge, and Ponds [Ref: 5673]. |
