Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the building and infrastructure industries with tradespeople who have the attributes, knowledge of current technologies and practical expertise required to carry out concrete construction work in a range of contexts across the concrete construction industry.
The optional strands in Precast Concrete Elements and Post-tensioned Concrete recognise specialised skills required in some settings in the concrete construction industry. This qualification is for people currently working in or entering the building or infrastructure construction trades or for people from other construction related trades backgrounds who intend to work in the building or infrastructure construction industry. Graduates will be able to operate unsupervised and perform to the required safety, technical, quality and productivity standards expected of a commercially competent concrete construction tradesperson. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Apply current concrete construction knowledge and skills to carry out tasks of moderate complexity using tools, equipment and relevant strategies. - Apply compliance and technical practices to plan, interpret and progress concrete construction work programmes and tasks. - Maintain standards, professionalism and positive work relationships in a concrete construction environment. - Construct and dismantle formwork of standard and moderate complexity for concrete structures. - Handle, store and install reinforcing of standard and moderate complexity for concrete structures. - Place and finish concrete of standard and moderate complexity for concrete structures. Graduates of the Precast Concrete elements strand will also be able to: - Position and secure precast concrete elements in accordance with plans, specifications and industry standards. Graduates of the Post-tensioned Concrete strand will also be able to: - Post-tension concrete structures in accordance with plans, specifications and industry standards. |

This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Concrete Construction Skills (Level 3) [Ref:4189] with strands in Formwork, Reinforcing, Placing and Finishing, Specified Concrete Finishes, Concrete Product Manufacture, Concrete Sawing and Drilling, and Precast Concrete Manufacture.
This qualification leads to the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trades Supervision (Level 5) with strands in Commercial Construction, Construction Related Manufacturing, Construction Related Trades and Residential Building [Ref: 4237] and the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Single Site Supervision) (Level 4) [Ref: 2617] |
