Nga Mana Whakairo a Toi: Bachelor of Maori Performing Arts is a three-year full time programme that prepares students for active contribution to creative arts, tourism, Maori development and service sector industries. The programme aims at providing graduates with skills that can improve their respective contribution to aligned industries. Tikanga: A capability to practice mātauranga Māori, te reo Māori, tikanga Māori, toi Māori and Māori performing arts. Rangatiratanga: An appreciation for mātauranga Māori, te reo Māori, tikanga Māori, toi Māori and Māori performing arts as an enabler for personal and professional advancement Kaitiakitanga: An ability to lead with pride and confidence to uphold the mana and tapu of whānau, hapū and iwi. Ako: An ability to engage in continued learning and development within Māori performing arts. TOI WĀNANGA - Intellectual skills and capabilities Tikanga: Competency to conduct research with intellectual, professional, cultural and ethical integrity Rangatiratanga: An intellectual openness and curiosity to pursue higher learning. Kaitiakitanga: A capacity to contribute to mātauranga Māori forums within whānau, hapū and iwi. Ako: A capacity for critical, conceptual and reflective thinking from a Māori world view. TOI WHAKAIRO - Specialised Mātauranga Tikanga: A willingness to uphold the unique bodies of Mātauranga ā-iwi, ā-hapū, ā- whānau and mātauranga-ā-kapa-haka Rangatiratanga: An ability to develop performance mastery. Kaitiakitanga: A capacity to champion and promote the retention and development of Māori performing arts within whānau, hapū and iwi. Ako: Respect for the values, world views and mātauranga of other individuals and groups and an appreciation of cultural and performance diversity |

Kaihaka in the programme can progress their studies into the Masters and Doctoral programmes delivered through the School of Indigenous Graduate Studies. The programme further provides a foundation informed by research and cultural responsibility supported by appropriate teaching and learning support.

Entry Requirements |
Standard Entry
Entry is open to applicants who are: at least l18 years or older; and have either successfully completed a relevant level 4 certificate or; NCEA Level 3 as described at the time of enrolment or Non-Standard Admission Approved Secondary Kura Cohort tauira: tauira must meet the following conditions prior to enrolment in the programme.Tauira who are enrolled in an approved secondary kura; and are in year 12 or 13 of that kura; and have demonstrated experience in kapa haka; and have written kura and parental approval to participate an agreed delivery plan has been signed by both Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuārangi and the kura. Special Admission: Special Admission may be granted, where a tauira is over the age of 20 years at the start of the programme and they can provide sufficient evidence of work experience, skill, education, background knowledge, commitment and support to successfully undertake the programme of study. . Credit provision for recognised programme: Applicants who have verified evidence of completion of the Ngā Mahi a Rehia Manu Korihi Level 5 certificate may gain year two entry into the Māori Performing Arts courses on this programme, with cross-credit for the year one courses. Entry into the reo Māori courses will be on the basis of evidence for a cross-credit application or through a Recognised Prior Learning Process within the Wananga. Note: the Western Institute of Technology, Diploma in Māori Performing Arts (Teaching) is ineligible for credit towards the Bachelor of Māori Performing Arts at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi |

The Nga Mana Whakairo a Toi: Bachelor of Maori Performing Arts is a three year full time programme that prepares students for community-based tutoring, teaching an cultural tourism facilitation.
The programme aims at providing graduates with skills than can improve the achievement, participation and education quality for all children. The Nga Mana Whakairo a Toi: Bachelor of Maori Performing Arts programme incorporates Maori Culture, Tikanga Maori, Te Reo Maori, Maori Philosophy an elective options in year six and seven from Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi papers including but not limited to: Teaching, Maori Art & Visual, Environmental Studies and Matauranga Maori. |
