Strategic Purpose Statement
The Diploma in Design Level 6 qualification will enable students to gain a broad range of core skills and knowledge followed by an opportunity to focus on career related options such as graphic design, packaging design, corporate identity, editorial design, and web design. Students will graduate with a broad knowledge of how we as humans interpret design, and will have gained a degree of perspective on their own abilities and creativity. The key aims of this course in relation to the nature and level of the qualification are: To equip students with a sound knowledge of graphic design theory, history, and context of its impact in New Zealand and worldwide. To enable students to apply graphic design theories in complex and challenging contexts, both individually as well as in teams. To enable students to gain practical research skills for application in graphic design issues and situations. To develop skills and faculties in analysis, synthesis of information, problem-solving, resource management, project management, and trouble-shooting. To develop student abilities to create, communicate and market their ideas. To develop a reflective practitioner who can appreciate the social context and theoretical underpinnings of design solutions.
Graduate profile
On completion of the Diploma in Design Level 6 course the graduate will: Be reflective practitioners who can work as a designer either independently and/or in teams. Be able to provide the knowledge and design skills sets required to function as an independent design practitioner.
Entry Requirements
To enter the Diploma in Design Level 6 course at New Zealand School of Education Limited students must: Have successfully completed year 12 at High School and in that time demonstrated an aptitude for art and design through a portfolio of work. Have successfully passed been through NZSE's interview selection process, which is an interview with, our marketing team, who are then joined by the course Programme Leader, for more specific questioning. Have the necessary academic ability and attitude to cope with a two year design diploma programme, as demonstrated in writing and in a portfolio of work. Students for whom English is not their first language must provide evidence of competency in English language equivalent to IELTS 6 (Academic).
