Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification is specifically designed to provide a pathway for qualified secondary school teachers in the specified group to meet the substantive non-teaching level 7 qualification requirement of the G3+ salary group.It is for trained teachers who were in service at 5 February 2003 and who were on step 13, or were progressing to step 13, and who are currently in secondary service. ?Teachers who were progressing to step 13? are defined as G3 teachers and teachers who are G1 and G2 and held a permanent unit at 5 February 2003 and still hold a permanent unit.The qualification allows secondary teachers to use their existing specialist subject qualification towards meeting the credit requirements, and provides a range of electives from which to choose the most appropriate knowledge and skills to complement their subject area. For example a trained secondary teacher who holds an Advanced Trade Certificate could demonstrate and apply knowledge of the technology curriculum, show understanding of educational research, and use their understanding of educational administration, to gain this qualification.

Entry Requirements
Applicants for entry to a course leading to the qualification must be trained secondary school teachers who were in service at 5 February 2003 and are currently employed as secondary teachers in state or state integrated schools. They must also be in qualification/salary group G3, or in qualification/salary group G2 (and had at 5 February 2003 and still have at the time of enrolment, one or more permanent salary units), or qualification/salary group G1 (and had at 5 February 2003 and have at the time of enrolment, one or more permanent salary units).

Level

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
