Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates of the Certificate in Adult Education will be able to:
? Identify and reflect on theories of learning relevant to adult learners ? Identify and use a range of teaching methods appropriate to his/her programmes and consider differing learning styles ? Select and use a range of appropriate classroom management and organisational strategies ? Identify and apply strategies for evaluating own teaching ? Identify and apply key concepts of assessment ? Identify and apply the processes and key elements involved in programme and course design (including lesson planning) ? Identify relevant learning issues for Maori students and students of other cultures and plan to provide appropriate and effective learning opportunities for them ? Articulate responsibilities and obligations implicit in Tiriti/the Treaty of Waitangi concept of partnership in an educational context ? Use technological and information skills to access, evaluate and manage information for teaching and learning ? Identify and understand adult learners? literacy needs And for those students who successfully complete AELE511 ? Develop adult learners? literacy and numeracy needs with a view to incorporating the teaching of literacy within a training or education programme. |

Entry Requirements |
Entry to the Certificate in Adult Education is as inclusive as possible. However, all applicants must first enrol in AETL401, Teaching and Learning.
Participants in courses apart from AETL401 must be involved in some kind of teaching, leading or mentoring role in an adult education environment. If you are from a non-English speaking background you are also required to have IELTS 7.0 Academic (no lower than 7.0 in any of the subtests) or the equivalent |
