This programme is aimed at Maori people wishing to study Maori using the total immersion technique to produce fluent and competent second language learners.

On completion of this programme you will have a thorough understanding of Maori language and customs, history and our contemporary standing in New Zealand today.
Te Hapara is a qualification useful in a range of settings including roles that deliver initiatives to improve Maori health and welfare outcomes. Other positions involving resourcing and management within iwi-based organisations, government departments and corporations, or community and social development agencies may also be of interest. Alternatively you could apply your knowledge in the fields of education, tourism, arts, media and sports. |

Te Hapara graduates meet the entry criteria for Te Atatu, Diploma in Māori Studies or you can also progress to Year 2 of the Bachelor of Language (Maori).

Academic Requirements
36 credits in NCEA Level 2 over three subjects plus 12 credits in NCEA Level 1 in te reo Maori. Alternative Requirements Evidence of literacy, numeracy and an ability to study at the appropriate level. This can be through study, work and/or life experience. CPIT literacy and numeracy assessments are available. Or a pass in the CPIT Certificate in Maori Studies, Te Ata Hou. Additional Requirements If you do not meet the above entry criteria but are still interested in this area of study, you may wish to consider Te Ata Hou or Te Haeata, the CPIT Maori Studies Foundation Certificate programmes which provide pathways to this diploma. English Requirements If English is not your first language you may also be required to provide evidence of your English language skills as listed below. If you have no evidence of your English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, contact us for an assessment. IELTS 6.0 Academic (no lower than 6.0 in any subtest). For acceptable alternatives refer to the English Proficiency Outcomes Chart. Note: If you have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements you are not required to provide evidence of English Language Skills. |
