Graduates of the Bachelor of Information Technology programme will have an up-to-date knowledge and command of the fundamental principles and theoretical foundations of the main branches of information technology.
The ability to learn independently and grow with experience will be a natural extension of the study method used within the programme. The discipline of self-reliance and the ability to work in a team will be developed to a level where the transition to a work or research environment will be a natural progression. STAGE ONE courses lay the foundation for the degree. They are in effect, all compulsory and cover the study of communication and interpersonal skills, mathematics and the use of computers in business. They introduce students to the use of computers and software packages, together with alternative information processing technologies, program development and design and the information technology environment. STAGE TWO courses allow the student to apply the theory to given controlled examples and provide plenty of practice in areas such as program development, operating systems, systems analysis and design, data models and databases, system implementation and control, computer hardware, and data communications and networks. STAGE THREE courses allow students to apply the theory, technology and operation of specific topics in depth with larger case studies which are industry-related wherever possible. |
