Strategic Purpose Statement
Graduates of this programme will attain a sound knowledge of the information technology environment and will be able to apply high level skills within a business organisation to advise on the efficient use of IT within the organisation. Graduates will be able to select from a number of areas within the IT field. On completion of this programme graduates will be prepared for employment in their chosen area or able to pursue postgraduate study.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Information Technology are able to:
1. Apply specialised Information Technology and Systems (IT/IS) knowledge and skills in a selected field of professional IT/IS practice.
2. Advise on, plan for and implement change processes within dynamic and complex organisational environments;
3. Critically evaluate global developments and accepted methodologies in IT/IS for incorporation in their professional practice;
4. Independently pursue new opportunities in a fast changing global environment;
5. Communicate and collaborate to build and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of individuals, clients, teams and organisations;
6. Practise IT/IS in a legal, sustainable, ethical and culturally appropriate manner;
7. Recognise the need for information and locate, evaluate and utilise information and data effectively through professional information management practices.
8. Demonstrate problem solving, critical thinking, reflective practice, self-management, project management, and systems thinking.

Entry Requirements
Successful completion of a 3-year degree or equivalent qualification or applicants from industry who can demonstrate evidence of significant work and professional experience at degree level or above. These applicants will be required to participate in an interview.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
