Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification will enhance the students opportunity for employment in the meat retailing industry by making students work ready for the meat industry, increasing the likelihood of gaining an apprenticeship in the industry and also providing a pathway into the National Certificate in Meat Retail and its associated strands. The programme will provide the opportunity for students to gain - Meat processing skills - Meat retailing skills - Job seeking skills - Generic work skills for the meat industry It is a full year programme at the end of which students will be able to work with minimal supervision. The programmes contain unit standards that contribute towards the National Certificate in Meat Retailing (level 4) and its associated strands. Successful completion of the programme will exempt the student from modules one and two of the ITO block course. Graduates of this qualification will be able to process and retail a range of meat products applying their knowledge of hygiene and OHS requirements. They will able to work in the meat retail industry with minimal supervision. They will have general retail skills and knowledge, which can be applied, in a number of retail situations and be competent in a face-to-face sales situation. They are likely to find employment and/or apprenticeships in meat retailing and processing industry such as supermarkets, butcheries, wholesale meat companies and processors or other areas in the retail sector. Students who successfully complete this qualification will have gained 80 credits toward the National Certificate in Meat Retail and its associated strands

Four literacy credits and two numeracy credits in NCEA level 1; or equivalent skills. IELTS 5.0 or proficiency in English. Special entry is available
