Strategic Purpose Statement |
This programme aims to prepare students for employment within the Computer Integrated Manufacturing CIM industry and complements programmes trades the NZDE and the BEngTech, currently offered by MIT by providing graduates who will be able to apply their specialised CIM knowledge and skills to meet the needs of industry or to transition into further study. Further study will be available for students in the form of CPIT computer aided design Level 6, and possibly New Zealand Diploma in Engineering Mechanical Level 6, and BEngTech.

Programme delivery for the MIT Diploma in Computer Integrated Manufacture reflects contemporary approaches to learning and teaching. Active learning is the key and this is reflected in the development and maintenance of flexible teaching modes including an online presence to facilitate blended delivery. In order to meet the diverse learning needs of the students, to ensure they develop the skills required in applied and theoretical situations, and to build on existing knowledge, a variety of methods will be used, which will include interactive teaching, YouTube videos or DVDs. Classroom exercises will be implemented throughout the programme as stated in the course descriptors. Students will be taught to maintain reflective log books (eg. Blog) to articulate their thoughts which will enable them to communicate more effectively when working in the industry. Emphasis will be placed on the links between the various components of the programme in order that students enjoy a holistic learning experience. This will include some integrated activities and assessments where appropriate. Students will be taught skills to enable them to critically evaluate their own work and the work of others in an inclusive and supportive environment that fosters understanding towards cultural sensitivity and an awareness of the needs of other students. Tutorial sessions will support students with their learning.

Entry Requirements |
Applicants must meet the following entry requirements: successfully completed at least 36 NCEA or equivalent credits at Level 2 including computing and or business with at least 12 credits in NCEA English Level 1 or equivalent and 12 credits in NCEA Mathematics or Pangarau Level 1 or equivalent, or provide evidence of equivalence through practical, professional or educational experience eg two three years full time work experience relevant to manufacturing trades. Evidence of literacy and numeracy will be required. MIT literacy assessments are available, and have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English. Any applicants whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS Academic band score of 5.5 with no score below 5.5 in speaking, reading, writing and listening or equivalent.
