Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates of this programme are able to practise social work and community work competently from their own cultural contexts with both families and their communities and whanau, Hapu, and Iwi. Underpinning their ability to practice in this way, they will have: an understanding of tikanga Maori and its application to social work and community work a sound knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its relevance to the practice of social work and community work. These fundamental aspects of our programme inform the following five areas of the profile of our graduates: 1. Graduates have explored the importance of values and ethics to social work and community work. 2. Graduates have developed the skills of working with their own and other cultures. 3. Graduates are able to use practice knowledge to: Analyse the mechanisms of power and privilege in society Articulate the effects of marginalisation and oppression on people's lives Critically analyse the place of social work and community work in Aotearoa society Analyse historical and current trends in social policy and their impacts upon the provision of social services Use knowledge of ecoonomic, legal, political and organisational systems to contribute to the development of policies that are consistent with social work and community work values. 4. Gradudates are able to work within the sturctures and systems of social work and community work organisations. 5. Graduates have developed the practice skills needed to enable them to work with the wide variety of peoples who utilise social work and community work agencies and organisations.
