Strategic Purpose Statement |
The Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering qualification occupies the gap between the certificate qualified technician and the degree qualified technologist. It is closely focused on the needs of the engineering technician and has a stronger orientation toward hands-on skills than the Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree. Students who graduate from the programme: can identify, analyse and apply engineering knowledge to well-defined engineering problems, can demonstrate the use of advanced technology to troubleshoot and support the design and development of a project; can apply modern test and measurement techniques in their area of specialisation; have problem solving and critical thinking skills in a well-defined engineering context; possess a practical appreciation of the product test and development process through appropriate group/individual activities; have communication skills that are required for effective functioning in a variety of technical positions; have sufficient in-depth understanding of the principles underlying the technology in their area of specialisation to keep up with future technological developments; have an awareness of legal requirements and regulatory issues; have an awareness of ethical standards and codes; have an awareness of the social, cultural and environmental impact of engineering; are able to work effectively as part of a team; and are able to work to deadlines.
