Strategic Purpose Statement |
A graduate of the MIT Certificate in Horticulture would: Have a good knowledge of the theoretical and practical skills needed in the horticulture industry specifically in the nursery production, amenity horticulture, retail garden centres, floriculture, glasshouse vegetable production, and turf culture. Be able to identify plants, pests and diseases. Show initiative in growing a range of plants to a saleable grade. Be able to work unsupervised, show initiative and accept responsibility. Be able to communicate effectively with staff and employers in a horticultural business. Understand the importance of keeping horticultural records and production logs. Develop an awareness and understanding of horticulture practices as it relates to Maori. Develop an awareness of the importance of cross cultural interaction within the horticulture industry.

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
